A Satyajit Ray discovery, Sharmila Tagore turned into a headline when she made her debut in Hindi films with Shakti Samanta’s Kashmir Ki Kali. Gifted with the ability to deliver powerhouse performances, Sharmila went on to excel in films like Mausam and Aradhana. Her daughter Soha Ali Khan has primarily chosen to act in ‘different’ cinema, and while there is very little doubt about her talent, she is nowhere near her mother in terms of stature. Saif Ali Khan, her son, is a major star in his own right. But Sharmila? Well, she was something else.
