Baby, and other Bollywood films on terrorism

MAACHIS: Maachis directed by Gulzar dealt with the militant response of the Punjabi youth because of the wrongs committed by the political establishment. Set against the backdrop of Operation Blue Star and the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the way in which this film dealt with the mindset of the terrorists was a creative masterstroke. The film had a mixed cast of veterans like Om Puri and Kulbhushan Kharbhanda and youngsters like Chandrachur Singh, Ravi Gosain and Raj Zutshi with Tabu being the only prominent young female actor. A minor masterpiece, this certainly was.
