'Bombay Velvet' is the story of rise of Johnny Balraj played by Ranbir Kapoor against the backdrop of Bombay of the 60's, a city which is on the verge of becoming a metropolis. This romantic thriller narrates the story of Johnny and his love Rosie, played by Anushka Sharma, an aspiring singer and how their hopes and dreams keep colliding with their individual realities. Karan Johar plays a malicious villain with towering aspirations. Budding love, a growing city, hunger for a good life; welcome to the city of opportunities, of scandals, welcome to Bombay Velvet. The film is scheduled for release on 28th November, 2014. The film will feature Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in lead roles while Karan Johar will play the primary antagonist. Raveena Tandon, Kay Kay Menon and Siddharth Basu will appear in supporting roles. The director initially got inspiration to do a film such as Bombay Velvet after reading the L.A. Quartet, which is a sequence of four crime fiction novels by James Ellroy, set in the late 1940s through the late 1950s in Los Angeles. The novels inspired him to dig into the dark trenches of the history of Bombay, where he found a treasure trove that was never-ending.
