Thalaivaa, as he is lovingly called as, has acted in more than 170 films in Tamil, Bengali, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, English and Malayalam languages. His marked his debut in the Indian film arena with Apoorva Raagangal, 1975 Tamil film. Before taking upon lead roles, the 63-year-old actor played negative roles in his films. Bhuvana Oru Kelvi Kuri was the first movie in which he played a positive role.
