Samay Exclusive: Nanda’s last interview

Did you like the coloured version of Hum Dono? It was visually a great experience but I would not place it above the original black and white film which is a classic. When I was invited to the preview of the coloured version I stepped out after a long time because I hoped to meet Dev Sahab. He was not around at the preview theatre and I asked his assistant who ushered me and my family inside whether I could meet Dev Sahab after the show since he had personally invited me and I had come all the way to meet him. He said you know how Dev Sahab is, he does not like to get emotional in public. After the show Dev Sahab asked his assistant to bring me to his office which was on the way back to my house. When he saw me he became emotional and he could not speak for a while. Little did I know I would never see him again.
