Army rescues 111 from snow-bound Sela Pass in Arunachal Last Updated : 03 Mar 2020 11:36:48 AM IST Army rescues 111 from snow-bound Sela Pass in Arunachal The Indian Army has rescued 111 tourists and locals including women and children, stranded in sub-zero temperatures at snow-bound Sela Pass in Arunachal Pradesh, a defence official said on Monday.
Army spokesman, Lt Col P. Khongsai, said two Army teams, along with medical staff and recovery vehicles, launched a major rescue operation on Saturday to rescue the stranded locals and tourists at an altitude of approximately 140,00 ft."The soldiers accompanied by medical personnel relentlessly worked throughout night till early hours of Sunday to rescue 111 stranded tourists and local civilians including women and small kids," he said, adding that the stranded people were taken out in 70 vehicles.Khongsai said that the Army, after rescuing the people, provided them hot tea, snacks and food.The tourists expressed their gratitude to the troops for their efforts which they termed as a "god sent help".Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister's secretariat, which was also monitoring the situation, also complimented the Indian Army for their timely and effective response.The Sela Pass, which also called Se La (La means pass) is a high-altitude mountain pass located in Tawang District of western Arunachal Pradesh, bordering China.It connects the Buddhist city of Tawang to Tezpur and Guwahati in Assam and is the main road connecting it with the rest of India.IANS Itanagar For Latest Updates Please-
