2.56 lakh ferried in 204 Shramik trains on Tuesday Last Updated : 20 May 2020 03:14:39 PM IST Shramik Train The Indian Railways on Wednesday said that it transported 2.56 lakh passengers on 204 Shramik Special trains on Tuesday across the country, the maximum on a single day since May 1.
Railway and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted: "Yesterday, the Railways promised to run 200 special trains for migrant workers; beyond that we have run a record 204 trains in the service of passengers."So far, 1,773 Shramik trains have been operated by the Railways to send migrant workers to their home states," Goyal added.The railways started Shramik trains from May 1, transporting over 23 lakh migrant workers to their native places till date.It suspended passenger, mail and express train services from March 25 amid the novel cornavirus outbreak.The railways is also running 15 pairs of special air-conditioned trains from May 12 and 200 more non-AC special trains from June 1.
