Four members of the Uttar Pradhan Vidhan Parishad are retiring on Monday, reducing the strength of the Samajwadi Party. The four members namely Shri Ram Yadav, Lilawati Kushwaha, Ram Vriksh Yadav and Jitendra Yadav had been nominated by the Governor.
The retirement of these members will reduce the strength of the Samajwadi Party to 47 in a House of 100 members.
The BJP, on the other hand, has 32 members in the Upper House and its strength will now increase to 36.
According to party sources, a meeting is scheduled to be held on Tuesday to decide on the names for nominations to the Vidhan Parishad.
The Governor will nominate the new members on the recommendation of the Chief Minister.
Former Congress MP, Jitin Prasada, who recently joined the BJP, is said to be a contender for nomination to the Vidhan Parishad. | ||||||||
